JVTF Apprenticeship Model: High School Internship and the JVTF Apprenticeship continue the education of students and graduates through on-the-job training, professional experience, mentorship, and pathways to employment and/or post-secondary education.Camp Grow: This program occurs during school breaks and K-8 participants build technical farming and culinary skills.Farm Club / Culinary Club: After-school programs at K-8 partner schools make the connection between sustainable farming, culinary skills, and STEM learning, and social-emotional growth.
That’s not all Jones Valley is doing, however. The organization’s program Good School Food is focused on expanding classroom learning into after-school and apprentice programs, where students can practice hands-on farming. The nonprofit serves K through 12th-grade students who might not have access to good, whole foods and want to learn more about farm-to-table meals. Jones Valley Teaching Farm works to combat hunger in its community through food education. In Birmingham, Alabama, 30 percent of residents live below poverty level.
